West Virginia Services

Thank you for your interest

We appreciate your interest, but National Child Support regrets that we are unable to aid West Virginia residents at this time.

National Child Support has established partnerships with government agencies nationwide in the effort to recover unpaid child support for families like yours. Unfortunately, West Virginia has refused to cooperate with us. Because of their recent actions, we are unable to effectively provide the help that you and your children need and deserve.

On April 14, 2001, at the request and with the support of the West Virginia Bureau of Child Support Enforcement, your state legislature passed Senate Bill 652, which Governor Wise signed. The legislation took away your choice to get help from organizations like National Child Support. This was done through restrictions that not only hurt our ability to afford the costs necessary to help you, but prevent us from being effective in our collection efforts.

The Bureau was aware of our expertise and 10 years of success, and that we were already helping hundreds of West Virginia families. Yet, we were not advised of this legislation or asked for our opinion until after it became law. We are disappointed that we did not have the opportunity to work with your elected officials on the issues that are so important to your family. We can’t tell if your lawmakers had a chance to hear from experts who support private sector solutions like ours, or from the true experts – families like yours and the tens of thousands of West Virginia families who have not been able to get help from the government. We can’t tell if your legislature had information about how much taxpayers could save if private child support enforcement alternatives were available to West Virginia residents as they are to the residents of other states.

Until this legislation is changed, we regret that we can’t be of help to you and the other families in West Virginia. We hope in the future to work with your elected officials to provide you with a private sector option. Until then, we can only encourage you to communicate with your elected officials and the agencies they control.

If you are already a customer of the state Bureau of Child Support Enforcement in West Virginia, we suggest you contact them, your legislators, and your Governor. Let them know you want action and results on your case, and let them know you want the opportunity to choose to get help from the private sector.
