We appreciate your interest, but National Child Support regrets that we are unable to aid Connecticut residents at this time.
National Child Support has established partnerships with government agencies nationwide in the effort to recover unpaid child support for families like yours. Unfortunately, Connecticut has refused to cooperate with us. Because of their recent actions, we are unable to effectively provide the help that you and your children need and deserve.
On June 20, 2001, your state legislature passed House Bill 6701, which then-Governor Rowland later signed. The legislation took away your choice to get help from organizations like National Child Support. This was done through restrictions that not only hurt our ability to afford the costs necessary to help you, but prevent us from being effective in our collection efforts.
Because of our expertise, reputation, success, and the fact that we were already helping hundreds of Connecticut families, we hoped that our input on the legislation would be valued. We cooperated, provided information, and even fought to help your elected officials produce a law that would help, and not hurt, families like yours and the tens of thousands of Connecticut
families who have not been able to get help from the government. In the end, other factors apparently prevailed.
Until this legislation is changed, we regret that we can’t be of help to you and the other families in Connecticut. We hope in the future to work with your elected officials to provide you with a private sector option. Until then, we can only encourage you to communicate with your elected officials and the agencies they control.
If you are already a customer of the Connecticut Department of Social Services/Bureau of Child Support Enforcement, we suggest you contact them, your legislators, and your Governor. Let them know you want action and results on your case, and let them know you want the opportunity to choose to get help from the private sector.
